Moët & Chandon has inaugurated "Essentia", a conservatory of grape varieties

This conservatory of 4 hectares includes 16000 vines coming from 2000 different varieties. Some have disease resistance or late ripening characteristics that could be relevant to face climate change and will be preserved for scientific study to provide technical solutions for adapting our viticultural practices so that tomorrow we may pass on the very best to future generations.

Initiatives to preserve biodiversity

Additional initiatives to preserve biodiversity have already been implemented in Mont Aigu:
• The installation of green roofs, providing additional habitats for various plant and animal species.
• The implementation of differentiated management of green spaces, with eco-grazing and the planting of a kilometer of hedge between the site and the research center, allowing species to move.
• Treatment of rainwater and wastewater to optimize the site’s water consumption.

Natura Nostra is a movement for the future of the Champagne region.

For more than 20 years, as the leader in Champagne and owner of the largest estate, we have been striving to fulfill our responsability to preserve it.

Natura Nostra, the Maison’s large-scale agroecology program, is a movement for the future of the Champagne region. A movement to accelerate the ecological transition
by speeding up actions in favor of biodiversity. A movement that takes a holistic approach to cultivating, protecting and biodiversifying Moët & Chandon’s estates. So that tomorrow we may pass them on even better than before.

MANIFESTO

work with nature manifesto

NATURA NOSTRA

Manifesto

To accelerate our actions. To protect the nature around us. And to work together as if our futures depend on it – because they do.

On behalf of Maison Moët & Chandon, I am proud to introduce Natura Nostra, our biodiversity program in Champagne that is designed to answer the challenges of climate change. Though the program Natura Nostra is new, our Maison’s commitment to nature is not. Since 1743, from generation to generation, Moët & Chandon has been working to preserve our unique natural heritage: the nature of Champagne, the very source of our wines.

But our environment is being pushed to the brink, and our Maison must continue to evolve, guided by our thinking that remains “a quarter-hour ahead”. Today – and for the last 20 years – our challenge has been to pass down three centuries of heritage and savoir-faire while reinventing a more responsible luxury sector. We are continuing to innovate and adapt to produce exceptional champagnes while respecting and preserving the ecosystem that surrounds us.

As the leading Maison, it is our responsibility to pave the way. But we are not alone. Based on our Maison’s nearly 300 years of experience, we know that collective action is the only path forward. Natura Nostra. Because it is our nature. Our futures. Our choices. And we choose to act – now.
